Taping an eyelid closed
نویسنده
چکیده
Method • Cut a piece of tape about 3 cm (approximately 1.2 inches) in length. • Gently evert (turn out) the lower eyelid to its former, normal position. • Apply one end of the tape to the skin about half a centimetre (5 mm or about 0.2 inches) below the centre of the lower eyelid. • Pull gently downwards on the tape, creating a horizontal fold in the skin below the eyelid (Figure 1). • Secure the remainder of the tape to the facial skin, maintaining the skin fold (Figure 2). This should correct the lower eyelid position. • Ask the patient to close, and then open, both eyes naturally. This will indicate whether the taping is effective and secure enough. It should still allow the eye to close completely.

Can eyelid taping predict the benefit of a lateral tarsal strip procedure in patients with eyelid laxity and functional epiphora?
PURPOSE To determine whether taping of the lower eyelid laterally and upward onto the temple region (to mimic a lateral tarsal strip procedure) can effectively predict whether lateral tarsal strip surgery will lead to resolution or improvement in functional epiphora by correcting eyelid laxity. METHODS A case series of 28 eyes in 20 patients with symptomatic epiphora and equivocal lateral eye...
متن کاملTemporary ectropion therapy by adhesive taping: a case study
INTRODUCTION Various surgical procedures are available to correct paralytic ectropion, which are applied in irreversible facial paresis. Problems occur when facial paresis has an unclear prognosis, since surgery of the lower eyelid is usually irreversible. We propose a simple method to correct temporary ectropion in facial palsy by applying an adhesive strip. PATIENTS AND METHODS Ten patients...
متن کاملEffects of spiral taping applied to the neck and ankle on the body balance index
[Purpose] This study was performed to investigate the changes in the body balance index when spiral taping is applied to the neck and ankle. The findings are expected to serve as evidence of the usefulness of taping the neck instead of the ankle when ankle taping is not feasible in clinical practice. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty healthy male students at A university were enrolled in this study...
متن کامل177: Eye Care in the Intensive Care Patients: an Evidence Based Review
Background and aims: A complication of sedation and coma is that some patients are unable to maintain effective eyelid closure. These patients present a higher risk of eye complications. However, in the intensive care unit (ICU), treatment is usually focused on the management of organ failures, and eye care becomes a side issue. Early diagnosis and effective treatment will help prevent microbia...
متن کاملUpper eyelid gold weight implantation in the Asian patient with facial paralysis.
Patients with facial paralysis may develop ophthalmic complications. Poor eyelid closure and lagophthalmos place the patient at increased risk for the development of corneal problems such as epithelial defects, stromal thinning, bacterial infection, and even perforation. Initial treatment should be conservative and include the use of ocular lubricants, moisture chambers, and taping of the lower...
